Girls Inc. Online: Welcome to Girlonomic$

Here Girls Inc. Online members learn about money, the economy, girls' role in the economy and more. But learning can also be fun, right? Meet Kayla and Serena - these characters guide you through the activities in Girlonomic$. Of course, once you become a member, you get many more activities, and most importantly - fun polls and discussions about the activities with other members.

Kayla Hi, I'm Kayla. I'm 11 years old and I love to draw and play sports - especially soccer. I'm really lucky because my mom gives me a weekly allowance of $5. I also receive money on my birthday sometimes. I spend some and save some. I also earn money by walking pets, watering plants, and babysitting kids in the neighborhood.

A few months ago, my family moved to a new community because my mom got a different job. I'm excited and nervous about being in a new place and making new friends.

Serena Hi! I'm Serena! I recently graduated from college, just landed my first job as a Junior Graphic Designer, and am sharing an apartment with a roommate. I'm really excited to be on my own. There are a lot of financial and economic challenges in my new world. They can be overwhelming at times. Come on my journey and help me with my first tasks of financial independence.

I want to own my own design studio someday. I want the business to focus on my real passion: designing posters and book covers.

I was always a good artist. Even as a younger girl, I loved looking at type and letters and noticed their different shapes. Once I experimented with different shaped letters by making my own business cards at summer camp. I always enrolled in arts programs available at her high school. I attended summer art programs. Looking back, I realize I was often doing some type of creative design project; I made my own holiday greeting cards, designed t-shirts for friends, was on the yearbook committee in high school, and created CD covers for local bands. I found a college with a strong design department, and during my studies, I realized all those silly little projects I had done for fun when I was younger were actually good preparation for college and my chosen field.
